Clean Away The Threat Of Spreading The Flu

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, every year in the U.S., 5 to 20 percent of the population gets the flu and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized due to the virus. If you or your family members become one of the millions of people who become infected with the virus, here are some cleaning tips from THE MAIDS Home Services to help combat it.

-- Wash your hands regularly in warm soapy water. For quick clean-up use antibacterial hand sanitizer. Make an effort not to touch your mouth, nose or eyes without first washing your hands.

-- Wear rubber gloves when cleaning to protect yourself.

-- Spray disinfecting spray on a cloth and wipe all hard surfaces -- toys, doorknobs, appliance handles, keyboards, remote controls, light switches, phones, facial tissue box covers, tables, chairs and counters. Viruses can live for up to 48 hours on hard surfaces.

-- Spray disinfecting cleaner on a cloth, wipe toilet handles and seats, faucets and sinks.

-- Wash items like towels and bedding in hot water with soap. Be sure not to share these items until they are thoroughly cleaned if someone has been sick in the home.

-- Change vacuum bags monthly or more frequently.

-- Boil toothbrushes for one minute in water and vinegar, run through a dishwasher cycle or purchase new brushes.

-- Use antibacterial wipes on your keyboard, phone and pens to protect yourself from spreading germs at work.
